Placement

Whilst applying for the job I found this part on Tigerprints website

So let's apply for that too

Applying for a job

For Tigerprint/Hallmark, it seems to be both.
That would be veeerrry nifty.
What's to lose

Very easy, just upload cv, and i added my portfolio too

Now we wait

Andlyn

Found this agency Andlyn on the AOI website
Don't really know if they're any good or not, they represent like 6 people and only three of them are illustrators and theyre alright but nothing extraordinary.

So maybe this one will reply to me

Sent an email rather than a submission

This is my email

Peter Allen

It's difficult to squeeze a response out of office people so I'm trying some illustrators instead

I found this guy on the AOI portfolios

I like his work its very playful and bold

He has a very impressive client list too

 I sent him this email

Illustration Ltd

Another decent agency.

They have a submission page but mostly I want advice and feedback so I went straight to email.

I picked Juliette because her job title sounded the most important

I think I'll try some of the others as well

I sent her this

Lemonade

Tireless search for agents continues
Just some feedback would be good
Not received any yet

Keeeep tryin'

So lemonade, theyre pretty big and seem decdent

Very passive agressive sumbission instructions

Oh well, y'dont know till ye try

Here is my email

Wonder how many people have made the life lemons reference

Response

More of a rejection but a response at least
From Plum Pudding
It's a very nice rejection
Quite a good response too, better than that book agency place, actually gave me something else to look at which is nice
I'll try them again after a bit of time

AOI Membership

So following that reality bombshell of a talk from AOI I'm going to join while it's still cheap.
I just can't decide whether to pay the extra £40 to get my portfolio on the website as well.
It's no cheaper as an affiliate student, so maybe I could hang on for that.
But also I got my loan through and it's more productive than buying shoes.
Garhh don't know

Here's what the portfolios look like

I'm considering it just for means of having a platform representing my work, somewhere where I can be browsed, because finding an agent seems to be THE hardest thing ever

I'll mull it over a little

Website update

So feedback has been that since my work is quite diverse at the minute, having it all as a gallery is confusing and loud, and looks like the work of six different people crammed together, so I'm working on a new plan but this gallery will have to remain the home page while I sort it out, it may take a while.

I have drop down menus of all the projects so when you click one it goes to that and just shows you those images, and on the front page I'll have a slideshow of work running, jsut so its not all on screen all at once in an audible buzz of confusing visuals

Theres some obvious formatting issues but its a work in progress

Blind Mice Response

Got an email back from the blind mice cookbook people I emailed

So maybe I'll hear something from that soon

AOI

The AOI talk was a reality bomb straight to the face.
Mostly a positive bomb, as in, this is a legit career that you can do and make a load of money if you do it right.
Also a negative bomb because I'll have to do all the serious business to be good and I'm not good at that.. I'm basically rubbish at all real skills and anything except the actual drawing. And sometimes event that too.

She blasted through a lot about licensing which was useful, to get hard facts about what actually happens, i.e you will lease an image for this long for this much money.
And she talked through how to price different jobs and how to find out more about a secret client to figure out how much money you can get from them

We got forms for accepting commissions and printed notes, which is good because theres no way i'd remember all this stuff and forms are useful

I think I will join the aoi, especially while its still discounted, cos I'm not sure I could manage it without the kind of crutch they provide. I need help with this stuff it is haaarrrrddd.

I feel a little more prepared now though. And baffled. Prepaffled

Linkedin

I quite like linkedin

Got my profile all spiffy

So I've been spam adding art directors and people who work at places I want to work for
Here are some of my successes
So thats pretty sweet so far
It's good because once they accept me I get their email address and then email them my portfolio. I'm still working through the list.
It seems some poeple will just accept anyone though
As long as theyre accepting me i aint fussed

Alison jackson Storyboard

Found this advert for a storyboard artist to work on a project with alison jackson
Quite like her work, its like very convincing and almost believable photo manipulation of celebrities

http://www.alison-jackson.co.uk/mental-images/

So I sent this

Reply

Got a reply from The Book recruitment
Isn't exaclty what I asked but I guess thats useful

I was more looking for actual feedback on my portfolio and CV writing tips
But shes told me how to get graduate jobs and why graduates are garbage so
Yeah I dunno

Debrief attempt 2

Couldn't find an art director or anything so I sent one to the email for written contributions and maybe theyll forward me to the right place with any luck

The Debrief

I like The Debrief a lot.
It's exactly what young female oriented magazines should be right now.
Honest and realistic and open minded.
It's got that I'm a feminist but also I shave my legs and like volume boosting mascara kinda vibe.

Also they use some great illustrative, and other, imagery.
Here's some examples

I emailed them last year to no avail, but I managed to get the creative directors email address from whoever I emailed first, so providing it's still the same person, I might have better luck this year.

Sent this email

UPDATE:
I got an immediate reply but it's not what I wanted

Now I commence the search for the correct email address
